The phenomenon recognized worldwide as the Las Vegas Strip is best enjoyed from a narrated helicopter tour over the hotel-lined street and the downtown Fremont Street Experience, the birthplace of casino gaming and the nickname “Glitter Gulch.” As the helicopter lifts off it becomes apparent that this is no ordinary boulevard, a fact recognized in 2000 when the Strip received a federal designation as an All-American Road. Historically the city is known for its intriguing marquees, each sign intricately designed to outdo its neighbor. A recognized art form, the neon billboards represent icons such as New York City and Paris. The helicopter tour also offers a collective view of hotels and their imaginative themes, such as the Roman Empire, battling pirates, erupting volcanoes, musically choreographed fountains, and Italian gondolas.
