GrandCanyonFunTrips.com is operated by Las Vegas locals. We often joke with each other about the amount of friends and family that spring out of the wood-work when they hear "so and so moved to Vegas". Nothing like being "Voluntold" to manage entertainment and activities for every group of friends that swings through town to make you an expert. It also gives one a keen eye for spotting great deals through the typical Vegas "smoke & mirrors". Our blog chronicles our adventures, misadventures, and generally serves to lift the veil on Las Vegas! Interested yet, then [Keep Reading] !!

Grand Canyon Helicopter Tours

The thrill of a helicopter flight over fascinating Southwestern landmarks, an exclusive view of the Grand Canyon not available elsewhere, and a private picnic just above the Colorado River are highlights of an excursion to America’s magnificent national park.

Visitors depart from the Las Vegas area aboard a climate-controlled, specially-designed sightseeing helicopter equipped with panoramic windows. Every passenger enjoys unobstructed views during the flight to the Canyon’s West Rim, home of the Hualapai Native American reservation. During the trip, guests don headphones to listen to a recorded narration filled with amazing history and fun facts about their destination, including extinct volcanoes. The tour narration is available in several different languages.

Passengers are introduced to  Boulder City, the community built by the U.S. Government to house the thousands of Hoover Dam workers and their families. Before the city was completed in the early-1930s, Depression Era job seekers lived in deplorable shanties, coping with unbearable summer temperatures. Stories of their survival are amazing. Today, the city of approximately 15,000 people is a quaint, small-town whose residents pride themselves on their origins as the “city by the Dam site.”

Tour Highlights
  • Panoramic views and photo opportunities
  • Helicopter flight to the Grand Canyon and return
  • Boulder City
  • Lake Mead National Recreation Area
  • Hoover Dam
  • Complimentary light meal at the canyon's bottom.

Hoover Dam Helicopter Tour

In the distance, passengers have an incomparable view of Hoover Dam, Lake Mead, and the Colorado River, the trio of landmarks that daily affects life in seven Western states and portions of Mexico. It’s possible to see why the Dam is considered one of the top engineering marvels in the U.S. Weighing in at more than six million tons, the massive structure is the first of several dams built on the Colorado River, to not only provide power and water to downstream users, but also to control the River’s periodic rampaging floods.

Sightseers can personally connect with the River after arriving at the West Rim of the Grand Canyon. The helicopter will make a 4,000-foot descent into the Canyon and land just above the River. Guests have a close-up view of the layers of ancient rock formations artfully crafted on the Canyon walls by time and erosion. Permission to land in the Canyon is exclusively permitted this tour by the Hualapai Indians, spiritual caretakers of the West Rim.

Tour takers can experience more Native American culture during a picnic lunch under an authentic Indian Ramada, a brush shelter built in the traditional manner. The Ramada not only provides shade, but is a marvelous backdrop for photographs.  The experience is completed with a champagne toast to the experience.  When the helicopter begins its ascent for the return trip to Las Vegas, passengers will have an amazing view of the Indian Village and Skywalk, a glass bridge that extends 4,000 feet over the Canyon.
