GrandCanyonFunTrips.com is operated by Las Vegas locals. We often joke with each other about the amount of friends and family that spring out of the wood-work when they hear "so and so moved to Vegas". Nothing like being "Voluntold" to manage entertainment and activities for every group of friends that swings through town to make you an expert. It also gives one a keen eye for spotting great deals through the typical Vegas "smoke & mirrors". Our blog chronicles our adventures, misadventures, and generally serves to lift the veil on Las Vegas! Interested yet, then [Keep Reading] !!

Grand Canyon Airplane Tours

Passengers taking a deluxe flight to the Grand Canyon are awestruck by the excursion’s unforgettable views. From the air, the Canyon’s spectacular scenery can be experienced  in its entirety, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. The Grand Canyon airplane tour is visually exciting, from the rich geologic colors of the Canyon walls to the Colorado River as it moves through the gorge creating rock formations, just as it has for millions of years. Tour takers also learn the parts played by the historically-significant Hoover Dam and Lake Mead in this dramatic chapter of the American West.

Visitors depart from the Las Vegas area aboard a specially-designed sightseeing aircraft equipped with panoramic windows. Every passenger enjoys an unobstructed view of the Grand Canyon, as well as the Dam and the lake it created. Headphones are provided so that guests can listen to a recorded narration filled with amazing stories and facts about the world-famous destination.

During the flight, the narration introduces passengers to  Boulder City, the community built by the U.S. Government to house the thousands of Hoover Dam workers and their families. For nearly three decades, the town remained a government reservation until January 1960, when control of the city was turned over to locals. Little changed with the transfer, including the fact gambling is still not permitted within the city limits.

Tour Highlights
  • Panoramic views and photo opportunities
  • Airplane flight to the Grand Canyon and return
  • Boulder City
  • Lake Mead National Recreation Area
  • Hoover Dam

The Colorado River plays a central role in the dramatic story of the geological creation of the Grand Canyon and the man-made triumph that is Hoover Dam. Water has always been the desert’s most precious resource, but, historically, the River was unreliable because of its cycles of drought and destructive floods. On the positive side, the flow of the River contributed to the unbelievable beauty of the Grand Canyon, helping to carve out layers of ancient rocks. Millions of visitors are awestruck by the formations, which are a rainbow of colors, including black, red, and shades of lavender.

Hoover Dam Tour from Las Vegas

This airplane Hoover Dam tour from Las Vegas offers an impressive view of Black Canyon, a gorge located on the Nevada/Arizona border, and home to Hoover Dam and Lake Mead, the 115-mile-long body of water on the backside of the Dam. Despite deplorable conditions, workers completed the Dam two years ahead of schedule, but at a cost of more than 90 lives. The Dam contains enough concrete to build a structure taller than the 1,250-foot-tall Empire State Building, but contrary to popular myth, no one is buried in the tons of the Dam’s cement.

As they fly over the Canyon before returning to Las Vegas, the excursion visits one of the gorge’s most remote regions, Grand Wash Cliffs. The contrast between brilliant red rock formations and a profusion of vegetation is awe-inspiring, another memorable moment at the Grand Canyon.
